Judges 21; Ruth 1; Ruth 2; Ruth 3; Ruth 4
The people lament the desolation of Benjamin. The inhabitants of Jabesh. Gilead are destroyed for not engaging in the war with Benjamin. Wives are provided for the remnant of Benjamin. Elimelech and his family go to Moab because of famine. His sons marry. The father and sons die. Ruth, the Moabitess, her husband having died, remains constant to Naomi. They come to Bethlehem. Ruth gleans in the fields of Boaz, a near relative of Naomi. He treats Ruth kindly. By Naomi’s instruction, Ruth lies at the feet of Boaz. He promises as a relative to take her as his wife. The nearest relative declines, and Boaz takes Ruth to wife. Ruth bears Obed, through whom came David the king.
Often we take too narrow a view of life like the little twig on the end of furthest limb of a tree. It is vital with buds and blossoms full and fragrant. However, it would be foolish for that little twig to say it had no need of the limb. Cut from the tree it could not survive a single day but it would wither and die. Its beauty and fragrance gone. To be fragrant foliage we must remain attached to the source of our strength. We must study the words of the prophets in the scriptures.
