The Old Testament quoted in the New Testament

Genesis 6:3, 5 is quoted in James 4:5.

Day 2

Genesis 5; Genesis 6; Genesis 7; Genesis 8; Genesis 9; Genesis 10

The generations of Adam are Adam, Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch (who walked with God), Methuselah, Lamech, and Noah (who begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth). The sons of God marry the daughters of men—Men turn to wickedness, the earth is filled with violence, and all flesh is corrupted—The Flood is promised—God establishes his covenant with Noah, who builds an ark to save his family and various living things. Noah’s family and various beasts and fowl enter the ark—The Flood comes, and water covers the whole earth—All other life that breathes is destroyed. The Flood ceases—Noah sends forth a dove, which returns with an olive leaf—He releases all living things from the ark—He offers sacrifices—Seedtime, harvest, and seasons are ensured. Noah and his sons are commanded to multiply and fill the earth—They are given dominion over all forms of life—The death penalty is decreed for murder—God will not again destroy the earth by a flood—Canaan is cursed; Shem and Japheth are blessed. The descendants of Noah are Japheth, whose descendants are Gentiles; Ham, whose descendants include the Canaanites; and Shem, of whom came Peleg (in whose days the earth was divided).

READ THE SCRIPTURES IN A YEAR

When was the last time you read through all the scriptures - Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price?

The challenge put forward today is to read them all this coming year. Sounds like a daunting task? But it isn't really. Look at it this way. If you will read seven pages each day, by new year's day next year you will have completed all four standard works. And what's more, to help out, I'll post links to each day's reading.

It will start next Today, January 1, 2016. Every day you see will something like the example below. All you'll need to do is click on a link and it will take you to that days reading.

Genesis 1; Genesis 2; Genesis 3; Genesis 4
God creates this earth and its heaven and all forms of life in six days—The creative acts of each day are described—God creates man, both male and female, in his own image—Man is given dominion over all things and is commanded to multiply and fill the earth. The Creation is completed...

BE RESOLVED

I get promotional emails encouraging me in one way or another. So many of the ideas boil down to what they have to promote doesn't cost much and is something that no informed person can be without. However one particular pundit made a lot of sense. The message was simply - focus. More particularly at this hour when so many of us are making our new year's resolutions - narrow focus to the doable. Don't make a long list - three things at the most. Be specific - it has to be something can be checked off as a "yes" or "no."

With that in mind one of the three specific things I will do this year is to read the scriptures cover to cover. I hope you'll make that resolution as well. Come back here tomorrow and we'll get stated together. Just seven pages a day - read them or listen to them. If you choose to listen, keep your book open so that you can mark the verses you want to ponder and pray on.

If this is the only resolution you make this year, I promise you that, as you act upon it, it will have a significantly positive impact on your life.
